When we went to Denver last month we received a lot of wonderful comments from other travelers about what a cute little "girl" we had. No matter what we dressed him in. So we batted around the idea of cutting his hair, but culturally I was a bit apprehensive about it. Most children do not receive their first haircut until at least a year or 18 months and even then it is shaven (YUP, I got shaved, good thing there are no pictures, my mom claims I have an ugly head.). But I decided to go ahead and make an appointment this week with Little Clippers, because even after we got home, people still thought he was a girl. So it just wasn't Coloradoans who couldn't tell a cute little boy from a little girl, I mean it's pretty bad when the hometown crowd can't tell. After a couple more girl comments, we gave in to the idea that Max needed a haircut! BUT the most affirming incident happened yesterday while we went to lunch with Kim and Madelyn. The next table over made a comment on " how nice that little girl is being", I promptly realized they were not talking about Madelyn (she was in the ladies room), they were talking about little Max! I just wanted to scream : HE'S A BOY! Notice the very boy outfit he has on! But I didn't want to get thrown out of the restaurant before we got our German chocolate cake.
Max was great during his haircut. He did much better than his daddy. I think there are pictures of Steve holding a hysterical Jeff getting his first haircut. Max tolerated everything, even the tickle of the electric razor. Little Clippers was great! They saved his hair and gave him a certificate for his first haircut. Max didn't really care of any of that. He was just happy they give out balloons at the end of the haircut. I am glad we went somewhere professional for his first haircut. The only complaint I have about Little Clippers is they are pretty spendy. I think the atmosphere is great and they really do cater to children, but I really can't justify spending that much on a baby haircut again. So Max will have to endure home haircuts like I did...just kidding, I just put that in there to freak out his Grandpa and Grandma Borsit. Whom, I might add had no problem subjecting their children to home haircuts done standing up in the bathtub, but when I mentioned that I might do that with Max, scolded me about being a cheapskate with their grandson, and that if I wanted to that "cheap" and "cruel" then they would just send Max money for "professional haircuts"....Seriously, who are these people and what have they done to my parents!?!
p.s.
I confess that I bought my child some hair wax, but it is totally safe and geared towards children. I also couldn't pass up a product called "Grape Hair Jam", it even smells like grapes! Besides I can always send the bill to his Grandma and Grandpa.
