When Jeff and I saw two lines on the pregnancy test last October we both started laughing, and I don't mean nervous school-girl giggles...I mean pure from the gut, raunchous, pee your pants laughter. Why, you ask?! Because we didn't know what else to do. We never had any intentions of having the customary "2-3 years apart" children, but at the very least I thought I would be back in my normal clothes for more than a week before I got pregnant again. The PTSD from our miscarriages and the laissez faire attitude towards birth control back fired on us.
My pregnancy was pretty uneventful and with Lucas, I even had time to get the epidural I wanted during labor. I love it that Lucas is his own little man. He doesn't look like Max at all (well minus the slanted eyes, but I guess that is to be expected). We think he looks like a pissed off bullfrog...A VERY CUTE pissed off bullfrog, of course.
Here are some thoughts on having Lucas :
Don't demand things from God, such as...DO NOT MAKE MY CHILDREN SHARE THE SAME BIRTHDAY, even if you say please in there, He does whatever He wants, and you know what, it works out just they way it's suppose to.
Lucas has the most gorgeous smile.
Lucas has more chins than a Hong Kong phonebook.
He is a child after my own heart...he is a chatterbox.
He loves being snuggled and held. So much so, I almost think he is spoiled-held...but I don't believe that babies can ever be spoiled-held.
He tries really hard to be brave and patient when Max is loving up on him.
I am so much more chill about Lucas than I was with Max, I think having a second kid chills you out. You don't worry so much about things that really in the end work themselves out. There aren't as many phone calls to the advice nurse. I don't know exactly how old he is to the day or minute. He sleeps on his tummy, because he actually SLEEPS when he is on his tummy, and no I don't feel guilty about it. I now know that developmental milestones have a WIDE RANGE for normal. I trust who I am as a mother much more now. Like I have said to some of you, I think a successful childhood is one where you leave with minimal scarring, all limbs in tact, and deeply loved.
I look forward to seeing what kind of little human Lucas turns out to be. I am sure he will be magnificent...well at least to his father and me. He is truly a blessing by all accounts. These last 3 months have been filled with tears (for all parties involved) of joy, frustration, and exhaustion! Times have been chaotic, fast-paced, and terrifyingly beautiful. What a ride!

I love it- you are doing a great job mom! I never would have planned to have mine so close thinking God had no idea what he was doing... but he did. I love it and they are as best of friends as they are annoying to eachother- its a great thing to see. Besides- your babies are super cute-makes it all that much better. :o)
