Names are so important. I think that's why Jeff and I felt it was really important to us to find out the sex of our children and to name them before they came into this world. I grew up with a funny name (I guess it hasn't changed so it is kind of still funny) but my parents made sure I always knew why I was named that, and hearing that story always made me feel special. A lot of immigrant children from Asia adopt "American" names, and when my parents asked me if I wanted to, I knew I wasn't going to be good at being anyone else but "Took". So no matter how many people laughed or snickered when they found out my name, I really have never hated my name, and I thank my parents for that. If you are curious to know what name I would have picked for my American name : Evelyn. (Because Ricky Schroder's mom on Silver Spoons was so pretty and she always wore a fantastic blue dress on the show I wanted to wear)
Naming my kids has been a pretty big undertaking, apparently when you are married you have to consider your husband's views on things such as baby naming. Good thing Jeff has good taste. We have had to think of names 4 times so it's a big topic of discussion in our little family.
I know we have told several of you that our intention of wanting to name baby #2 Everett, but after noticing how some very close loved ones were reacting to the name, we have chosen to go with another name. Not because we care what other people think of our names, but we didn't want their view of his name to affect the way they treat him. And I didn't want people to give him nicknames or call him something else, because they didn't like his full name. It's offensive to me to even suggest calling someone else's child something else because you don't like their name.So lesson learned, we are keeping his name close to our hearts, and just fair warning when we announce the name, I will kill you and blame it on post-partum depression if anyone makes a rude comment about the name we have picked. Down below you will find comments that will be acceptable to me during the announcement:
"wow, we know a great kid named ...."
"i wish that was my name"
"that goes great with max"
"i love that name"
"how cute"
"nice name"
"great name"
"it's much nicer than Poopsnapper"
For those of you trying to guess his name it is NOT : Blake, Brock, Cole, Asher, Everett, or Poopsnapper.

good for you! way to keep those names safe and secure! the olmsted clan applauds your decision and waits in anticipation of the great reveal. bottom line, he'll be beautiful and sweet and snuggly no matter what he's called, but we are confident he'll have the name he's meant to have!
I love the name Max and I loved Everett too! so I know whatever name you guys pick will be perfect. I cant wait to here what it is.
you are my hero
Took - welcome to the world of secrecy in baby-naming! We have stuck with keeping our name secret ... though part of that may be because we're not 100% sure we might not hear an even cooler name over the next 4 months! Good move.
